PhD on Social Sciences (UNICAMP, University of Campinas, Brazil, 1993); Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Center of Latin American Studies of the University of Chicago, under the supervision of Prof. John Coatsworth (1992-1993); Postdoctoral Researcher at this same university under the supervision of Prof. Kathleen Conzen (1996, 2000 and 2006). My main books, book chapters and articles are dedicated to Sociology and Social History of Migrations to Brazil. Titles like Patrícios – Sírios e Libaneses em Sao Paulo, Italianidade no interior paulista, Café e Indústria, Atlas da Imigração Internacional em São Paulo (coauthor), Imigração nas Américas – estudos de história comparada (coed.) and Estudos Migratorios: perspectivas metodológicas (coed.) appear among my best-known books in Brazil. In 2019, my book Syrian and Lebanese Patricios in Sao Paulo (Illinois University Press, 2018) received the Evelyn Shakir Non-Fiction Award of the Arab-American National Museum. From 1997 to 2000 and from 2005 to 2009, I have coordinated, the Working Group on International Migrations of ANPOCS – the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Social Sciences that represents over a hundred postgraduate study and research centers in Anthropology, International Relations, Political Science, and Sociology throughout Brazil. Fellow Researcher of CNPq, Member of the FAPESP Humanities and Social Science I Area Coordination (since 2019), of the Red de Estudios Migratorios Transatlánticos, based on the CSIC in Madrid (2009-2018), and of ISA, SSHA, ABRE and SBS. Guest Speaker at Columbia University (2018), Brown University (2015), École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (2014), Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina (2013), Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (2012), Universidad de Salamanca (2010), American University of Beirut (2006), Université de Notre Dame, Lebanon (2006), and University of Chicago (1993).
